Three comedies at Playhouse this summer
Three comedies are on the schedule for the Post Playhouse, which will be in its 38th season at Fort Robinson this summer. Nearly 70 performances are scheduled, running from Memorial Day weekend through Aug 17.
This year’s shows are “A Night in the Theatre,” “I Ought to Be in Pictures” and “Greater Tuna.” The playhouse’s executive director, Loree MacNeill, said all three are guaranteed to provide lots of chuckles.
“A Night at the Theatre” is about two couples who see “Hamlet” and their struggle to understand Shakespeare and eventually each other.
“I Ought to Be in Pictures” is a Neil Simon comedy. MacNeill calls it “classic Simon, good drama with great laughs.”
“Greater Tuna” takes place in the third smallest town in Texas. But it has a radio station, OKKK, and numerous colorful characters with a variety of problems and interests.
Before the comedies get rolling, Celtic singer Kathy Cowan will join MacNeill, who is an outstanding soprano, and pianist Will Baily for a musical extravaganza around Memorial Day in late May.
Ticket prices will remain the same as last year. They are $12 for adults, $10 for those 65 years and better, $8 for youths 12 and under and $8 for groups of 25 or more. Prior to May 21, tickets may be ordered through Cultural Programs at Chadron State College, 1000 Main Street, Chadron, NE 69337. After that date, they may be ordered through the Post Playhouse, Box 271, Crawford, NE 69339. The summer schedule and more details are available at www.postplayhouse.com.
