Speaker to discuss energy outlook

The project manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo., John Brown, will be the second speaker in the Distinguished Speakers Series in the Student Center Ballroom at Chadron State College at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15.

NREL is the principal research laboratory for the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Brown’s duties include providing expertise for communities and private industry that are interested in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. He also is a spokesman for a variety of DOE programs, including Rebuild America and Energy Smart Schools.

In addition, Brown supports the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Bill Section 9006, a five-year program to help farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses purchase renewable energy systems and make energy efficiency improvements.

Prior to joining the laboratory, Brown spent 15 years in oil and gas exploration and production, working in both the United States and abroad.

The Distinguished Speaker Series programs are open to the public without charge. The first speaker was Bob Reiss, former Chicago Tribune reporter who spoke discussed the potential weather hazards caused by global warming this past Monday night.
