For the fifth consecutive year, the Chadron State College Students In Free Enterprise team has advanced to national competition by winning its league title. The SIFE National Exposition will be at Kansas City, Mo., May 22-26.

The team won the league championship during regional competition Tuesday, April 6, in Denver.

At regionals, SIFE teams presented 24-minute multimedia summaries describing their educational outreach programs. They were judged on how well they have taught others a working knowledge of the free enterprise system.

The Chadron State team had numerous such projects during the past year. It used a board game to teach business skills to Chadron fourth-grade students, instructed seventh-grade students about checkbook management, taught ninth- and tenth-grade students about the stock market, advised college students on job searching skills, alerted students and community members about diploma scams, and communicated information about identity theft to residents of Prairie Pines Lodge retirement community.

Other teams in Chadron State’s league were Colorado State University, University of Colorado-Pueblo, Metropolitan State College, Rocky Mountain College and the University of New Mexico. The league is one of three in the region.

In addition to the league championship, the Chadron State team was named as a top 15 finalist in five of the six special competitions open to all 800 SIFE teams in the nation.

SIFE is a global, non-profit organization that supports student teams on more than 1,600 college and university campuses in 40 countries, providing students the opportunity for involvement, and to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
