Professors to present recital

The two newest members of the music faculty at Chadron State College will present a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 in the Chicoine Atrium of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Society. There will be no admission charge.

The recital will feature Dr. Will Baily on the piano and Dr. Joel Schreuder, a baritone.

Baily, who is a native of Scottsbluff, is in his third year Chadron State. He earned his bachelor’s degree from CSC and his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado. He was on the music faculty at a college in Mississippi before coming to Chadron State, where he teaches piano.

Schreuder came to Chadron State two years ago shortly after completing his doctorate at Arizona State University. He is a native of Portland, Ore. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University at Tacoma, Wash., and his master’s degree from Washington State University. He is the director of choral music and vocal studies at CSC.

Schreuder will begin the recital by singing several German Lieder selections by Brahms and Schubert. He also will sing a set of nine “Songs of Travel” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and arias from the “The Marriage of Figaro.”

Baily will perform Chopin’s “Polonaise, Op 53,” a sonata by Mozart and both will close with a lighter number, “Pass That Football” from Leonard Bernstein’s “Wonderful Town.”
