A new multicultural counselor has begun working at Chadron State College. He is Aaron Grow, who was born at Osmond, Neb., but has lived much of his life in Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Grow’s duties at Chadron State will include recruiting, retention and assistance of multicultural and international students.

Earlier this decade, Grow worked as a psychiatric technician at the Center for Behavioral Health that is affiliated with the Rapid City Regional Hospital for two years. While living in the Rapid City area, he also was an employment specialist in the Community Transitions program operated by Black Hills Workshop. During the past two years, he has been a personal counselor at UNK.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1992, Grow operated a computerized numerical control lathe in a factory in Kearney for five years before beginning work on his master’s degree. The degree, which he received in May 2000, is in community counseling.

While this is the first time Grow has lived in Chadron, several of his family members are CSC graduates. They include his father, Dr. Robert Grow, a Beatrice dentist; his grandmother, Corlee Mills of Hill City, S.D.; and an aunt, Lynda Grow Fisher, formerly of Crawford and now of Dixson, Wyo.
