Mallets and Ivory

Published:

Many Christmas standards will be presented when the Chadron State College keyboard and percussion ensembles join for the Mallets and Ivory concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 in Memorial Hall.

Some of the selections on the program include "Carol of the Bells," "O Holy Night," "What Child Is This?" "Hark! the Herald Angels Sing," "Jingle Bells" and "Sleigh Ride."

Karin Keller will be returning as the featured singer. There wasn't "a dry eye in the house" last year following her performance. She will sing "The Christmas Song," "Mary Did You Know?" and a new selection recorded by Amy Grant.

The CSC Music Department's newest member, James Margetts, is the director of the keyboard ensemble. He previously taught at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colo., and Millikin University at Decatur, Ill. He studied at Brigham Young University and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

The percussion ensemble is directed by Dr. Sandy Schaefer, who is in his sixth year at CSC. Schaefer holds degrees from Indiana State, the University of Colorado and Arizona State, and has built the CSC jazz program become one of the Great Plains' finest.

There will be no admission charged for the concert, and if Santa isn't too busy, he is expected to make a guest appearance.
