Jazz Birds to perform

The Chadron State College Jazz Birds will be performing Thursday, March 18 starting at 8 p.m. at the Olde Main Street Inn in downtown Chadron.

The group’s new vocalist, Mandy Carlson of Hay Springs, will be signing hits such as “Spain,” “Round Midnight,” “Green Dolphin Street,” “Let’s Stay Together” and a new arrangement of “Heatwave” made famous by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.

The Jazz Birds’ director, Dr. Sandy Schaefer, said the audience will be encouraged to sing along on “I Got You” by James Brown.

Members of the group in addition to Carlson are Nate Beutler of Chadron, drums; Jon Dailey of Chadron, trombone; Crystallin Dillon of Chadron, saxophone; Sean House of St. Louis, alto saxophone; Alex Jones of Alliance; trumpet; Rachel Lowry of Fort Morgan, Colo., piano; Eric Mumm of Tryon, bass; and Travis Norris of Hale, Mo., guitar.

There will be no charge for attending the performance.
