Jazz Birds to have first performance

The Jazz Birds from Chadron State College will be making their first appearance of the school year at the Olde Main Street Inn in the 100 block of Main Street in Chadron at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30. There is no admission charge.

Directed by Dr. Sandy Schaefer, the Jazz Birds include vocalist Mandy Carlson of Hay Springs and a 10-piece combo.

A special feature at the Thursday night performance will be Dr. Joel Schreuder, CSC vocal music director, singing two Frank Sinatra tunes that Schaefer has arranged for the Jazz Birds. The numbers are “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “Luck Be A Lady Tonight.”

The members of the combo are Nate Beutler of Chadron, drums; Jonathan Dailey of Chadron, trombone; Conrad Ganche of Gering, bass; Ashley Grey of Valentine, keyboard; Melissa Huber of Sturgis, vibes; Heather Husk of Casper, alto saxophone; Alex Jones of Alliance, trumpet; Miki Myers of Sundance, Wyo., tenor sax; Eric Mumm of Tryon, guitar; and Travis Norris of Hale, Mo., guitar.
