Jazz Birds, guests to sing Thursday night
A couple of guest vocalists and maybe more will be performing with the Chadron State Jazz Birds at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at the Olde Main Street Inn in downtown Chadron.
Director Sandy Schaefer said the combo will be performing three new arrangements. They include "The Chicken" (not the chicken dance) by Jaco Pastorius, a famous bass player. The number will feature CSC freshman bassist Conrad Gachne of Gering. Schaefer calls Gachne “an extraordinary talent.”
Also to be presented are "Chameleon, " a popular jazz funk tune from the mid-1970s, and "Attitude Dance" by the group Tower of Power. The latter number will feature guest vocalist Jolana Milburn of Rushville.
The Jazz Birds’ main vocalist is Mandy Carlson of Hay Springs, but the CSC choral music director, Dr. Joel Schreuder, will sing two Frank Sinatra tunes and the group’s former lead singer, Karin Keller, may also sing a few numbers, Schaefer said.
The programs are open to the public without charge.
