Chadron State College presented its annual Diversity Awards on Saturday to three college employees and a student who have helped CSC promote a diverse approach.

Cory Headley of Douglas, Wyo., a senior who helped promote Martin Luther King Day activities and other campus diversity events, won the student award. In his nomination, he was saluted for obtaining funding for diversity speaker Leon Williams’ performance and coordinating that event.

The awards for employees were presented to Dr. David Welch, dean of Professional and Graduate Studies, Dr. Lisette Leesch, associate professor of Social Sciences and Justice Studies, and Kathy Mason, Student Services office assistant.

Each of the recipients was commended for “going the extra step” in recognizing and promoting the importance of diversity. The nominations, which were drawn from a campus-wide process, were voted on by members of the CSC Diversity Committee.

The awards were presented at the Chadron State International Club’s annual Food Tasting Party, an event which features foods and cultural entertainment by students from a host of other countries. The party is one of the the college’s most popular events each year.
