Chadron State students and faculty members earned recognition during the annual Nebraska Family and Consumer Sciences conference March 19-20 at Kearney.

Senior Cori Turbiville of Sundance, Wyo., was the only undergraduate student to display a research project, “Too Little to Hunt … But NOT Too Little to be Safe.”

Turbiville and freshman Stephanie Keigley of Guernsey, Wyo., were elected to offices during the students’ business meeting. Turbiville will be secretary and Keigley will be treasurer during the upcoming year.

The Chadron State student chapter received the honor of highest individual and association point earners. One example of its involvement was a successful effort by senior Brenda Trump of Scottsbluff in collecting personal care items for the Kearney domestic violence shelter, contributing to a statewide effort.

Chadron State applied sciences faculty also played a major role at the conference.

Dr. Margaret Crouse, professor, was selected chairwoman of the nominating committee for NFCS officers. Dr. Yvonne Moody, associate professor, served as chairwoman for the organization’s scholarship committee this past year. Dr. Kim Madsen, associate professor,, and Dr. Norma Neileigh, professor, were among several professionals to present research findings at the conference.

Three CSC students – Turbiville, Tonya DeWitt of Minatare and Charisa Woods of Rushville – volunteered as models for keynote speaker Jenny Raymond, whose quilted fashions have won national acclaim and will be featured in an international exhibit in the Netherlands.

Other sessions included entrepreneurship, volunteerism and resource management. The group also toured points of interest near Kearney.
