“Let the Games Begin” will be the theme of an assortment of activities designed for Chadron State College students and staff on the Deans Green north of the Administration Building on Friday, April 2 as the CSC Scholastic Contest is drawing to a close.

Sharon Rickenbach, coordinator of Student Academic Success Services at CSC, is one of the organizers of the events. She said activities will begin about 1:30 and include various board games, lawn games such as croquet and bocceball and live music provided by CSC senior Gail Saxonis of Hot Springs and Deb Carpenter, who teaches English at the college.

In addition, members of the radio club will serve as disk jockeys. A barbecue beginning at about 3:30 is also planned.

Beginning at about 9 a.m., the annual technology challenge will take place on the campus. Kevin Miller, assistant professor of industrial technology, said students from several schools that are participating in the Scholastic Contest will have entries in the challenge. The event will feature two classes of high-mileage vehicles, most of which will resemble go-carts. The vehicles in one class will be powered by a standard 3 1/2-horsepower Briggs and Stratton engines, and the second by other small engines.

All the vehicles will be provided a half liter of fuel. The race will take place on the loop through the Deans Green, Main Street on campus and 10th Street between Main and Bordeaux Streets.

In addition, the CSC football team will have its final scrimmage of spring practice Friday morning at Elliott Field.
