Early Childhood Conference is this weekend

Registrations are still being accepted for the 15th Excellence in Early Childhood Conference at Chadron State College. The conference will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20 and 21 in the Student Center. It has a strong reputation for providing current information and inspiration to those involved in the care and welfare of children.

The cost of attending the conference is $35. The CSC Conferencing Office at 308-432-6380 has registration details.

The conference will begin at 7 p.m. Friday with a session entitled “Music and Movement for All” presented by Bonnie Czekanski, professional consultant and trainer from Alexandria, Va. The presentation will be open to the public without charge. Entire families are invited to attend.

She also will speak early Saturday afternoon on “Contact...Connecting Care and Curriculum.”

Another major presenter will be Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She will give a keynote address at 8:15 Saturday morning on “The Kindness Connection: Promoting Children’s Prosocial Behavior.”

Both Czekanski and Kostelnik will be among the presenters at breakout sessions on Saturday. Kostelnik will discuss coping with childhood aggression and Czekanski will speak on “Creating a School Family.”

Other presenters Saturday and their topics will include Jeanne Murray, UNL extension educator at Alliance,“Fit and Healthy Kids;” Cheryl Svoboda of Scottsbluff, “Autism Spectrum Disorder;” and Beth Grass of Gering, “Maximizing Infant-Toddler Brain Power.”
