Chadron State College Dean of Students Dr. Rex Cogdill has resigned to pursue other interests in education or the medical services field. The resignation will be effective July 1.

Cogdill, a Chadron State graduate and Chadron native who has held numerous positions at his alma mater during the past 14 years, has served as dean of students since June 1997.

He was hired in 1990 as director of CSC’s Bureau of Economic Development and Research, an effort to assist in the Panhandle’s economic development efforts. After 10 months he became CSC’s director of housing, a position he held from 1991 to December 1995.

In 1996, he became assistant to the president for institutional planning and research until being named to his current position.

Cogdill’s first position at Chadron State was director of continuing health education after earning a bachelor’s degree from CSC in 1976. He later earned a master’s degree from the University of Arizona in 1982 and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1995.

Cogdill has leadership roles on numerous committees at Chadron State, including those dealing with the Scholastic Contest, Homecoming, Ivy Day, admissions and scholarships appeals, and enrollment management. He also has co-sponsored the Blue Key Honor Society since 1994 and has been a supporter of the rodeo team.

He was president of the Chadron Chamber of Commerce in 1992-93 and has been a chamber ambassador since 1994.

Cogdill said he has thoroughly enjoyed working at Chadron State and “can’t say enough good things about the students, staff and faculty here.”

He and his wife, Shawn, have three children, Casey Mitchell, Leah Mitchell and Sam Mitchell.
