CSC to host Statehood Day celebration
Well over 300 elementary school students plus their teachers and numerous parents will be in the Student Center at Chadron State College Thursday, Feb. 26, to help Nebraska celebrate Statehood Day. Secretary of State John Gale will be the master of ceremonies.
The program will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. CSC President Tom Krepel and Chadron Mayor John Gamby will be among the speakers. Chris Sayre of Lincoln will present a program entitled “A Musical Journey Across America.” Gordon Howard of Bayard, an Oregon Trail buff, will share some historical facts in his program titled “Westward Ho.”
Numerous city, county and education officials from the region have accepted invitations to attend the program.
The program at Chadron State is one of nine throughout the state this coming week and on Monday, March 1, which is Nebraska’s official statehood day. This is the first time a Statehood Day celebration has been in northwest Nebraska.
The program is designed primarily for fourth-graders, but several of the rural schools which will be participating are bringing all the students. Among the schools planning to attend are Chadron, Crawford, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Gordon and Alliance St. Agnes.
The list also includes five Dawes County rural schools—Alpha, Cottonwood, Prairie Home, Trunk Butte and Whitney—and four Sheridan County rural schools—Clinton, Extension, Mirage Flats and Prairie Center.
