Dr. Wes Stevens, who has taught at the University of North Dakota the past seven years, has been appointed program director and assistant professor of social work at Chadron State College, beginning this fall.

Stevens is a native of Iowa. He received his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University at Kirksville, Mo., his master’s degree from the University of Missouri and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana.

Beginning in 1972, Stevens spent 15 years was a social worker, area office director and regional director for Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota, based at Willmar.

He also was field coordinator for the social work program at Southwest State University at Marshall, Minn., four years. After earning his doctorate in 1996, he joined the faculty at the University of North Dakota.

He was nominated for the Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award at UND in 2001. That summer, he spoke on “The Role of Women in Policy Making in the United States” at the Conference on Women’s Leadership in Russia.

Stevens’ wife Carolyn is principal of a self-contained school for children with emotional problems in Willmar, Minn. They have two children, Michael, who is working on his master’s degree in sociology at the University of North Dakota, and Michelle, who recently completed her master’s degree in criminal justice at Michigan State University.

At Chadron State, Stevens replaces Dr. Chet Dilday, who resigned a year ago.
