CSC choral concert is Sunday

The Chadron State College concert choir and men’s ensemble will have their fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at the United Methodist Church in Chadron. Both groups are directed by Dr. Joel Schreuder.

The eight-member ensemble will open the program with seven numbers ranging from sacred to lighter pieces.

The selections will include “Hunter’s Choice, ” a leading song from “Der Freischutz,” which was the first Romantic German Opera. It was written in 1821 by Carl Maria von Weber, whose first opera was produced when he was just 14 years old.

Also on the program are “This is My Commandment” and “Ave Maria,” along with Norman Luboff’s arrangement of “Colorado Trail.” In addition, Dr. William Winkle will play the tuba as the ensemble sings “Wade in the Water.”

The 44-voice choir will open with “And Then Shall Your Light” from the musical Elijah, “Jing-ga-lye-ya” by Bruce Sled and “Cloudburst.” The latter number will have Rachael Christian of Gordon and Warren Eagle of Tuscaloosa, Ala., as soloists.

The choir also will sing “How Can I Keep From Singing?” with Hannah Huckfeldt of Chadron as soloist and “Jesus Is a Rock in a Weary Land.”

Members of the men’s ensemble are Kevin Berggren, Broken Bow; Kevin Challberg, Sidney; Daniel Chasek, Chadron; Michael Fulton, Norfolk; Joe Essay, Bayard; Shane Teichmeier, Cairo, Neb.; Chris VanDyke, Benkelman; and Eagle.

Melinda Fillmore of Chadron and Ashley Grey of Valentine are the piano accompanists for the groups

Admission to the concert will be $5 for adults and $3 for youths 18 and under and senior citizens if the tickets are obtained in advance through the Memorial Hall box office at 432-6360. All tickets at the door will be $6.
