Five outstanding seniors will be soloists during the spring concert by the Chadron State College wind ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 in Memorial Hall. Tickets are now available through the M Hall box office.

Dr. William Winkle is the band director. The soloists are:

--Heather Husk of Casper, a flutist, will play the Norwegian folk song, “Saterjentens Sontag,” by Ole Bull.

--Melissa Phillips of Mullen will perform “Concerto for Clarinet K622” by Wolfgang Mozart.

--Johannah Hardy of Chadron will perform an original work for alto saxophone and band entitled “Latinata” by David Bennett.

--Ben Stinson of Rushville will be featured on “Touch of Tuba” by Art Dedrick.

--Rachel Lowry of Fort Morgan, Colo., will be playing “Portrait Of a Trumpet,” which was written for Doc Severnson.

Also in the spotlight at the concert will be sophomore Warren Eagle of Tuscaloosa, Ala. He will be the conductor for “The Pines of Rome.”

The wind ensemble will also be performing John Philip Sousa’s “New Mexico March.” Winkle said the march is one of Sousa’s most unusual, using borrowed melodies and rhythms.

Also on the program will be “Toccata,” which was written for virtuoso Baroque organ; “The Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna Overture” by Franz von Suppe; “Folies” by Roger Cichy; and “Ride” by Samuel Hazo;

Winkle said both of the latter numbers include difficult contemporary rhythms and will feature the woodwind, brass and percussion sections.
