For the first time, Chadron State College has been named the outstanding collegiate chapter of Music Educators National Conference. The honor was presented Nov. 19 at the Nebraska Music Educators Association meeting.

Chadron State competed with chapters from all the colleges and universities in Nebraska. Carola Winkle, MENC advisor at CSC, said the 23-member group was chosen because of its service to the campus and surrounding region. It conducted music programs at area schools, sang carols to elderly and presented a program for the Nebraska Statehood Party at CSC in March. In addition, the students provided stage management for CSC’s student recitals, attended NMEA events in Lincoln, and hosted a speaker’s series which will continue during the second semester.

Chadron State’s MENC group also is planning a reception for music scholarship donors and recipients, to be Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Hall lobby.

Ben Stinson, a senior music major from Rushville who is the chapter’s past president, compiled the award-winning scrapbook of activities. The chapter’s current president is Becky Hoekema, a junior from Sidney.

The CSC chapter was organized by Dr. Harry Holmberg 50 years ago.
