Board of Trustees meeting at Chadron State College

Published:

The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges will be meeting at Chadron State College today (Thursday, Sept. 16) and Friday.

After numerous committee meetings take place today, the board members and college officials will meet in the Chicoine Atrium of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center tonight to view the Graves Photographic Exhibit that opened Wednesday. In addition, there will be a dinner honoring Dr. Robert Stack as the State College System’s professor of the year. Stack had taught mathematics at Chadron State the last six years before becoming interim dean of students this summer.

The agenda for the official meeting starting at 9 a.m. Friday in the Chicoine Atrium contains mostly routine matters.

The board is expected to approve a report from the Enrollment and Marketing Committee recommending that the state colleges and its system office in Lincoln launch an enrollment and marketing initiative. Last April, the board added one percent to its tuition charges for the current school year to provide funds for the initiative.

In addition, an update will be given by the Nebraska State Colleges Tuition Task Force. Dr. Joyce Hardy, vice president of academic and student affairs at CSC, is a member of the task force. She said the group is examining tuition policies and practices with the intent of maintaining student access, student academic support and the academic excellence for which the colleges are now known.

Hardy said the task force members are concerned that recent increases in the cost of attending the colleges is denying access to them and leaving the students and their families with a larger debt burden when the students graduate.
