Band members land first chair
Three members of the Chadron State College band were selected as the section leaders for the Nebraska Intercollegiate Band that performed during the recent Nebraska State Bandmasters Association convention in Lincoln.
Chosen for the first chair slots following auditions were Warren Eagle of Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the euphonium, Malinda Sprentall of Chadron for the clarinet and Ben Stinson of Rushville for the tuba.
Five more CSC band members also were selected to play in the all-state collegiate band. Those students are Melissa Huber of Sturgis, S.D., and Jon Dailey, Johanna Hardy, Siobhana McEwen and Sara Schmidt, all of Chadron.
Also during the convention, a member of the CSC music faculty, Carola Winkle, was elected public relations chairman for the coming year. Her duties will include providing information to the media on scholarships, awards and events such as the concert band competition in April and the marching band contest next fall. Both of the latter events are for high school bands.
