Proof of English language proficiency must be submitted by applicants at the time of application. You must have evidence of English language proficiency sent directly to the International Office. Proficiency may be demonstrated by any one of the following.
Test of English Language as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)*
- Arrangements to take the TOEFL can be found at: TOEFL.
- The minimum required score is:
- 550 with no section score less than 56 (paper based)
- 80 (Internet based)
- 213 with no section score less than 22 (computer based)
- Please send your exam results to International@csc.edu
International English Language Test System (IELTS)*
- Minimum required score is 6.5. Exam must be the IELTS Academic. Arrangements to take the IELTS can be found at: IELTS.
- Students can direct IELTS to send an original copy of their IELTS score to Chadron State College online through the IELTS TRF verification tool OR students can email a copy of their results to International@csc.edu
Duolingo
- Minimum required score is 95. Arrangements to take the Duolingo can be found at: Duolingo.
- Please send exam results to international@csc.edu
ACT
- Minimum required scores are as follows: English 19, Reading 19.
- Arrangements to take the ACT exam can be found at: ACT.
SAT
- Minimum required scores for tests taken after March 2016 are as follows: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 440.

English Composition Courses
- Completion of a minimum of six (6) credit hours of English compositions with a "C" or better from an accredited American higher education institution.
Exempted Countries
International students who completed an English-speaking secondary education in any of the following countries are exempt from English language proficiency testing:
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (Except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, the Gambia, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom, U.S. Virgin Islands
CSC reserves the right to require additional testing of any incoming student's English skills. If it is determined that additional English studies are necessary, you may be required to take the appropriate intensive English program courses prior to, or concurrent with, enrolling in CSC academic programs. Refusal to do so, or failure to successfully complete it, may result in dismissal from CSC.
*TOEFL, and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the date the test was taken.
