Recipient must be an Education major and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The Richard W. Borton Memorial Scholarship was established in 1984 in memory of Richard Borton, a 1947 graduate of Chadron State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mrs. Viola (Sandstrom) Borton and her children, Juliet K. Rutt, (Chadron State College, 1978) and Walter W. Borton chose the formatting of this scholarship to assist an upper level education major to acknowledge Mr. Borton's lifetime commitment to education. In 2001 this scholarship was enhanced by a memorial in honor of Mr. Gary Rutt, Juliet's husband, commemorating his service to education.
