His last year of Optometry School, he served as national president of the American Optometric Student Association. He practiced Optometry for 30 years in Grand Island, Nebraska. Gwen graduated from CSC in 1978 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in English and Speech and Theater. She later received her Masters of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Kearney State College. During most of her 30 year career in education, she served as Director of Guidance and Counseling for Grand Island Senior High. Both Dick and Gwen loved Chadron State College and felt it provided them with a strong foundation for further education. Gwen cherished her memories in summer stock theater at Fort Robinson in 1976 and Dick was honored to be named Distinguished Young Alumnus in 1988. We hope through this scholarship, a young life will be as blessed as ours was.
