Paul P. Brown was born and raised in Martin, South Dakota. He went into the Army in 1940, about a year after graduating from Martin High School. He worked for a government crew working out of Hyannis, Nebraska making a geodetic map of the US. He went to work for them as a rod man. While with the crew he met his wife, Mayme. During his employment, he took a correspondence course in Civil Engineering. Paul advanced in his career retiring as District Chief out of Kansas City, Mo.
