McDonald, Freed, and Wiley Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

The recipient shall be the member of the graduating class at Chadron High School and shall rank scholastically within the upper 50% of the class.


Mr. McDonald was born in 1895 and was of that generation when a 10th grade education was far as the public school went. He talked about experiential learning long before professional educators did. He got a great deal of enjoyment by attending things sponsored by Mari Sandoz Heritage Society. Henry Freed attended CSC one year then joined the work force of a local furniture store. He was highly successful and not only purchased the local stores but started what became very successful store in Rapid City and one in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a member of the State college Board for several years and was president of the group. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley were vitally interested in education. Mrs. Wiley was a long time teacher in the Chadron Public Schools.
