Preference will be given to a full-time non-traditional student. Financial need will be a consideration. The recipient shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Kathy Traphagan was an energetic and outgoing person who placed a high value on education. Chadron State College played an important role in her life: she received both her bachelor's degree and master's degree from CSC and worked as the director of non-traditional students at the time of her death. She was killed in a car accident in September of 1992 on her way to Gordon to teach a night class. Kathy was a wonderful mother and had two children.
