Criteria:

The recipient shall show promise as a member of the women's rodeo team. She shall exemplify good conduct and good sportsmanship.

Kathy Kennedy was the first-place winner in breakaway roping in the Great Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association in both 1979 and 1980 for Chadron State College.  She also won the national championship in 1980.  During her senior year she led a courageous battle against cancer that finally took her life in August 22, 1981.  She was still roping and warming the hearts of all she came in contact with a month before her death.  The scholarship was established by her multitude of friends and the Chadron State College Rodeo Club. The Kathy Kennedy Memorial Scholarship was established by her many friends and the Chadron State College Rodeo Club.
