June Penor Memorial Scholarship

The recipient shall be pursuing a curriculum in "Teaching the Exceptional Child".

June (Tjelle) Penor was born in 1928 in Webster, S.D. She taught special education, starting a pilot program teaching children with learning disabilities. Soon after, she started a program for special children in her home in Chadron, which she operated until her death in 1981. It was her fervent hope that children with learning disabilities be given every opportunity to achieve goals and be successful.
