Dr. John "Jack" & Jeanne Hawley Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

The recipents shall have graduated from high school within the area served by Dr. Hawley: Nebraska Panhandle, south west South Dakota, and eastern Wyoming. They shall be majoring in the Pre-Veterinary Medicine. They must have graduated in the top one-half of their class and they must demonstrate financial need.

Dr. John Hawley and his wife, Jean came to Chadron in the summer of 1956. He was truly a pioneer for veterinary medicine in this area. Dr. Hawley liked this area and came to devote his life to providing veterinary service to the many farms and ranches in northwest Nebraska and southwest South Dakota. Dr. Hawley served as the sale veterinarian for Chadron Sales Co. for many years and was very active in eradicating bangs in the area. He was asked to become the State Veterinarian for Nebraska, but he declined because of his devotion to this area. Dr. Hawley retired in 1980 and lived the rest of his life in Chadron.
