Area of Interest: Secondary Education
Recipient shall be a full-time student who is able to demonstrate financial need and hold a minimum GPA of 3.0. First preference is given to a student pursuing a degree in secondary education with endorsements in math and/or natural science subject areas. Second consideration will be given a student pursuing a dregree in secondary education and graduated from a high school in one of the following counties: Keya Paha, Wheeler, Rock, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Sheridan, and Dawes.
The Dean-Outhouse Family Endowed Scholarship is established by the donors in memory of the family's four Chadron State (Teachers) College graduates: William J. Outhouse, BA in Education 1925- Teacher and administrator for schools in North and South Dakota administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Also taught and served as an administrator in Nebraska public schools. Icle M. Outhouse, BA in Education 1955- High school commerce teacher in Nebraska and elementary teacher at Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian day schools in South Dakota. Willard J. Dean, BS in Biology & Business 1952- Data processing sales and owner of Royal Printing Co., Locust Grove, Georgia. Kenneth M. Dean, BS in Biology & Education 1950- Retired church administration consultant for Baptist Sunday School Board, Nashville, TN. Former high school science teacher and coach, Wheeler County High School, Bartlett, NE.
