The recipient shall be a Chadron High School graduate.

The Dean and Mary Gould scholarship was created by Katy Gould Tomisser and Dean Gould, Jr, to honor their parents. Dean and Mary Gould raised their family in Chadron. After Dean's sudden death in 1970, Mary struggled to provide for the family of 5 children. She knew that a college education was the path to a life with more opportunities and encouraged her children to pursue a college education. In the end, all 5 children graduated from college. Their daughters Mary and Katy, daughter-in-law Laurie, and son-in-law Jerry graduated from CSC. Their son Gary attended CSC prior to transferring to another college, son Dean graduated from another university, and their son Pat graduated from another college. Pat was the Fire Chief of Chadron for more than 20 years, providing service to CSC during many emergencies, including the 2006 wildfire which was stopped at the southern edge of the campus.
