Crites law offices opened in Chadron in 1887, when Albert W. Crites moved to town. His sons, Edwin and Frederick, and grandson, also named Albert W., also practiced law in the community. Edwin served on the college's governoring board from 1931 until his death in 1953. The law firm is now headed by Gordon Shaffer, who is married to Marion Crites, Granddaughter of the pioneer attorney.
