Barbara Barnes Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:

Recipient must be majoring in Music Education and/or Speech/Theatre. The recipient shall be selected by the Chairs of the Music and Speech/Theatre Departments


Barbara Barnes was from Ainsworth, Neb. She attended Chadron State in 1941 and 1942 and played French horn for the CSC Orchestra. She moved to Iowa to be near family and graduated from Iowa University. She taught English and music for 2 years at Dysart, Iowa; was a music teacher at Sheridan, Wyo., for 6 years, and then taught vocal music and music theatre in Downers Grove, Ill., for the next 30 years. Barbara retired west of Fort Robinson in Crawford, Neb. and built a home where she lived the rest of her life. Her sister, Marjorie (Barnes) Finley, who graduated from CSC in 1955, established this endowment in her memory.
