Avis L. Dover Endowed Scholarship

Criteria:

Recipient shall be majoring in Education with a minimum GPA of at least 2.5.

Avis Dover and her identical twin sister were born at home in Madison, Nebraska on June 14, 1928. She graduated from Newport High School in 1946. Her father borrowed $80.00 to send her and her twin sister to Chadron State College so they could begin their teaching careers. Avis' first year of teaching was in a rural school in Keya Paha County. Teaching became a part of her. She taught every year and went to college during the summer to earn her B.A., M.S. and CAS. Her teaching career spanned 46 years, from a one-room school to a 9th-12th grade high school. She states, "I am so glad my father borrowed that $80.00!"
