The recipient shall be a resident of Nebraska and be majoring in Education. He/she shall have a GPA of at least a 3.0. The recipient shall display good character, leadership, and exceptional potential for teaching.
Arthur G. 'Pete' Peterson was born July 23, 1904, in Otoe County, Neb. Pete received his bachelor of arts degree from Chadron State College and his master's degree from the University of Wyoming. He was a teacher at Banner County High School for three years before becoming superintendent for five years. Pete was the principal at Gordon High School for one year before becoming superintendent at Hays Springs for six years. He then was superintendent at Plainview for thirteen years before moving to Mitchell. In Mitchell, he served as superintendent for eleven years, at which time he became principal for the elementary schools at Mitchell for eight years, before retirement in 1976. His educational career totaled 46 years, with 35 of those years in the capacity of superintendent. He was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from the Nebraska Education Association. Pete and his wife, Anna, celebrated 55 wedding anniversaries before his death on Feb. 1, 1988. They raised four daughters.
