Purpose

The Chadron State College Galaxy Series is designed to stretch the experiences and imaginations of the institution’s students, employees and other residents of the region. This is completed through the programming of classical, historical and contemporary visual artists, speakers, musicians and performers. Programming is chosen for artistic, educational, entertainment and multi-cultural values.

Amberly Snyder

Amberley shares her experience from living the perfect life to it all crashing in an instant. A rollover accident leaving her paralyzed changes everything. She learns how accepting help and serving others can be such an important part of life. Amberley shows how life knocked her down, but with the help of her family, friends and faith she has worked to “get back on the horse.”

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Feb. 21, 7 p.m.

The Bindlestiff Family Cirkus brings its unique hybrid of vaudeville, circus, burlesque, and sideshow to CSC. They have produced Off-Broadway shows and custom performances for audiences of all ages. Co-founders Stephanie Monseu and Keith Nelson are dedicated to the variety arts and have hosted many performers with outrageous talent.

“On the Road Again” is an exhibition of artworks related to the open road from the collection of Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. It will travel to eight Nebraska communities during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Founded in 1921, the Omaha Symphony has been the flagship source for orchestral music in the state of Nebraska and beyond for nearly 100 years. Dr. Ian Passmore, Conductor Bio:

With adventurous musicality and an infectious stage presence, Dr. Ian Passmore leads a rich career as conductor and educator. Praised by Fanfare Magazine as “a rising young conductor” whose work “just glows,” his performances are recognized for their distinctive, often daring interpretations. Following two seasons as the Omaha Symphony’s Assistant Conductor, the orchestra named Dr. Passmore their Associate Conductor in 2019, a position never before created in its nearly 100 year history. His previous engagements include numerous guest conducting appointments, including his residency at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi. Having begun his own conducting studies at the age of ten, Dr. Passmore’s career also emphasizes conducting pedagogy and music education at large. His educational contributions include working with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s high school Side-by-Side program, as well as a position as Associate Instructor of Orchestral Conducting at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In his private teaching, Passmore’s students have gone on to attend conservatories and summer festivals such as Indiana University, the Conservatoire de musique de Lyon, and the Aspen Music Festival & School. Passmore holds a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University, with additional education from the University of Delaware and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as well as UNC Chapel Hill. Sam Adams

Biography:
Smooth. Clever. Hilarious. These words are used often to describe Sam Adams, who gained national attention by winning at the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival. The “True Color” video clip from his Dry Bar Comedy special filmed in 2017 when viral with over 10 million Facebook views in less than 72 hours.

Sam’s energetic, comically-insightful act is 100 percent profanity-free and filled with observations about his every-day encounters. He is a headline performer and featured speaker at comedy clubs and corporate events across the country, and has shared stages with national-touring comedians and music recording artists – a genre-jumping list of nationally-known performers ranging from comedians Craig Ferguson, Frank Caliendo, Kevin Nealon and David Alan Grier to music’s Rock and Roll hall of Fame band Heart and seven-time Grammy Award winner Al Jarreau. The Denver Business Journal once gave Sam a favorable review for “bringing down the house with a string of well-delivered lines that were notable from their lack of profanity, scatological or sexual references. “Sam also has over 20 year of experience as a newspaper sports journalist, having worked for The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News and The Charlotte Observer.

In 2003 Sam received the Print Journalist of the Year award from his peers in Colorado. He’s also credited with television appearances on ESPN, Fox Sports Net, NFL Network and local CBS and NBC affiliates. He has covered championship events at all levels – most notable four Super Bowls and two Olympiads.

Sam also has authored one book, titled “If You Don’t Believe Me: Lessons Learned from Listening to The Greats” which was released in April, 2013. Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway wrote the following tribute to Sam for the book: “Through the ups and downs of an NFL career, I developed great trust, respect and appreciation from him. Blending an uncanny ability to mix humor with keen insight and knowledge, Sam is a one-of-a-kind storyteller.”

2017-2018 Galaxy Series

Sandra Uwiringiyimana

Feb. 8, 2018 - 7:00 p.m.

Sandra Uwiringiyimana is the co-founder of the Jimbere Fund, a human rights activist, and the author of the memoir How Dare the Sun Rise (Katherine Tegen Books).

This profoundly moving memoir is the remarkable and inspiring true story of Uwiringiyimana, a girl from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who tells the tale of how she survived a massacre, immigrated to America, and overcame her trauma through art and activism. Uwiringiyimana tells the story of her survival, of finding her place in a new country, of her hope for the future, and how she found a way to give voice to her people.

In telling her story, Uwiringiyimana has shared the world stage with Charlie Rose, Angelina Jolie, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and Tina Brown at the Women in the World Summit. She addressed the United Nations Security Council at the request of Ambassador Samantha Power to plead with world leaders to act on the pressing issue of Children in Armed Conflict. Uwiringiyimana has become a voice for women and girls, refugees and immigrants, and forgotten people like the Banyamulenge Tribe.

Currently, Uwiringiyimana is a student at Mercy College in New York City.

Unmatched in artistry, grace and refinement of movement, the internationally acclaimed Cashore Marionettes redefine the art of puppetry. The moving and humorous performance has astounded audiences in Europe, the Far East and across North America including stops at the Kennedy Center, Annenberg Center, Kravis Center, and many others.

In the performance Life in Motion, Joseph Cashore presents his collection of marionette masterworks. Characters of depth, integrity, and humanity are portrayed in a full evening unlike anything else in theater today. The performance is a series of scenes taken from everyday life and set to beautiful music by composers such as Beethoven, Vivaldi, Strauss, and Copland. Through a combination of virtuoso manipulation, humor, pathos, classic music, and poetic insight, the Cashore Marionettes take the audience on a journey that celebrates the richness of life. Life in Motion is a powerful, entertaining, surprising, theatrically satisfying, one-of-a-kind evening for adults and young adults.

Carr Family Cowboy Band

Carr Family Cowboy Band The Carr Family has been ranching in the Sandhills of Nebraska for well over a century. Through music, Ronn, Judy, Anna, Abby and Walter have been able to enjoy seeing the American west together while performing at special events and cowboy gatherings. Their signature sound is hallmarked by three violins, a guitar, bass and mandolin, and a genuine understanding of the historic and modern cowboy life.

Marty Blocker

Marty Blocker Marty Blocker is a working cowboy and ranch manage for a large cattle company just west of Cody, Nebraska. Plying his trade gives him a lot of subject matter for his poems and an edge of authenticity in his works. Besides writing his own poems Marty also recites works of past and present masters presenting a wider range of styles and stories.

R.P. Smith

R.P. Smith is the fourth generation to raise cattle on the Pine Crest ranch at his home near Broken Bow, Nebraska. For the past 25 years Cowboy Poetry has helped him support his ranching habit and also given him some chances to travel with his family. His brand of cowboy poetry and country commentary is a result of the beef industry, which as been re¬fined by practicing for ranchers,ruminates and relatives,and is savored by folks from all walks of life.
