October 2019: Eating on Campus
By Rachel Mitchell
Coming to college can be frightening because there are many unknowns. Whether it’s about the smallest things like making sure we go into the right building for class or know where to eat on campus and know what is offered, college can be nerve wracking. But, if you are anything like me, you look forward to getting a break from classes and enjoying meals with your friends. At Chadron State College there are two locations to eat on campus: the Dining Room and the Eagle Market.
Dining Room
The Dining Room is located in the Student Center and provides a variety of meals to choose from every day. Within the Dining Room there are plenty of options for everyone. My favorite part about this option is the quality of every meal and its sides. There are three different stations to choose from, including a pizza and sandwich station, a meat and veggie station, and a revolving third station where the menu constantly changes. An added bonus to the Dining Room is a salad bar and you are able to get cereal all day.
Eagle Market
The Eagle Market is also located in the Student Center. This is a more grab and go kind of option. There are again three stations here. The first is called Chicana. It serves tacos, burritos, and rice bowls. You’re able to add what you like to all of the options and all the ingredients are fresh and hot. The next option is called Sub Stand. Here you can create your own sandwich, wrap, or salad. They have almost a dozen different bread options and have plenty of freshly sliced meats and cheeses. Everything is made to order, and you can choose what goes on it. The third station is called Stack Burger. Here you can get grilled chicken, cheeseburgers, chicken strips, and other things of this nature. You can add all your own toppings to what you’d like. This year a Starbucks was added to the Eagle Market, which is a good option for coffee lovers or anyone else who wants a delicious drink.
Bonus: Eagle To Go
Eagle To Go is located in the lobby of the High Rise Residence Hall and is open late for those late night cravings. This is perfect for students living in the dorms who need a little snack or meal. You can get quite a few things like Hot Pockets, candy, chips, ice cream, Gatorade, and more.
Plenty of Options
All of the dining options available on campus are made to try and make students feel more at home. There is a variety of different seating if you are in a big group or if it’s just you. People might come up and ask if you’d like someone to sit with you. It’s comfortable to eat at either location. The Dining Room has some TVs spread throughout, and the Eagle Market has lounging areas to eat in as well as booths, tables, and chairs. There is a sense of community which makes the environment a good experience. The staff are friendly and do their best to make your food as tasty as possible. There are a variety of options and if you have dietary restrictions there are options for you.
There are a few different ways that you can pay for your meals, but most students use their meal plans. At the beginning of the semester you will fill out a card that asks what meal plan you want. There are a few different tiers and whatever one you chose determines the amount of meals you get in a semester. Your meal plan is loaded onto your EagleCard and that is scanned in the dining room and Eagle Market. Another way to pay is with Eagle Bucks which is part of the meal plan you chose. It is also loaded onto your Eagle Card and you can use like a debit card. These are the most popular ways for students to eat on campus.
Both the Eagle Market and dining room are open Monday through Friday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On Saturday only the Eagle Market is open and on Sunday only the Dining Room is open. Overall, the dining options and services have a variety of meals and options so you can have something new every day. Whether you go to the Eagle Market or the dining room you will have friendly experiences and plenty of tasty food to choose from.
