LEARNING STYLES

It is important to recognize that we all learn differently. In order for agencies to best educate students, the agency should take the different learning styles into consideration.

An graphic showing the four types of learners: visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic

Visual Learners:
Learn best from information they can see or read.

Reading/Writing Learners:
Learn best by reading information and/or taking notes.

Auditory Learners:
Learn best by hearing information.
Auditory learners like discussions.

Kinesthetic Learners:
Learn best through experience.
Kinesthetic learners enjoy hands-on activities and role-playing.

WAYS TO INCORPORATE DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLES

Visual Auditory Kinesthetic
Provide reading materials about agency history, client population, and intervention methods Rephrase important parts to increase understanding Provide opportunities for student to be involved in agency activities quickly
Demonstrate how something is done Process information & instructions aloud Act out potential client scenarios
Allow opportunities for observation Encourage student to ask questions Develop interactive assignments/tasks
Encourage student to take notes with written instructions Give student opportunites to talk to other staff about thier jobs/functions Provide opportunities for early contact with clients
Provide a quiet place for student to learn-noise is generally distracting to thse learners Ask student to discuss understanding of information being addressed in own words
