ELEMENTS RELATED TO THE AGENCY:

  • Help the student learn about the agency.
  • Treat the student as a professional.
  • Include the student in agency functions.

TASKS/ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Clarify the purpose of assignments.
  • Provide the student with detailed instructions.
  • Work with the student on tasks/assignments.
  • Regularly review the student's workload.
  • Provide the student with a variety of activities.
  • Provide early opportunities for client contact.
  • Clarify the student's performance expectations.

SUPERVISORY SKILLS:

  • Encourage discussion of things the student may need to correct.
  • Help student link theory to practice.
  • Provide clear and consistent feedback.
  • Reassure the student that he/she can succeed.
  • Demonstrate the student is valuable to the agency.

SUPERVISON:

  • Student needs to meet weekly with Instructor.
  • These meetings need to be regularly scheduled.
  • Student will bring his/her own agenda.
    • Agenda may include items about the student's strengths, issues concerning practice and experience, his/her performance, and areas to improve on.
  • Discussion of learning needs.
