We would like to give you a warm WELCOME to our developmentally appropriate and active learning environment. It is our pleasure to work with families and students, as well as to offer the highest quality early childhood experience possible.
Our center is enhanced by the quality of individuals hired to work as main staff. These individuals work closely with every child offering unique and exciting opportunities to learn and grow. They have experienced a wealth of training and education that supports their qualifications to work in the center. Please take every opportunity to become acquainted with these “special” and dedicated professionals. They are devoted to children and education in the early years.
Lona Downs - Director
"Ms. Lona" joined the Child Development Center teaching team in September 2012 as a part time/full time teacher. In May 2013, Lona accepted the position as Interim Director. In January 2014, she was moved in the Director position. Lona is from Buffalo, SD and a graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education specializing in children Birth to 8 years of age as well as a Kindergarten endorsement.
Keri Ruff - Lead Teacher
“Ms. Keri” joined the Child Development Center team in Janurary of 2020 as the full-time lead teacher. Ms. Keri is from Eaton, Colorado and is an alum of Chadron State College. She graduated in December of 2018 with a degree in Family Consumer Sciences with an option in Child Studies.
Some of Ms. Keri’s Favorite things: Sushi, lemonade, skittles, and the Fall season.
Karen Broberg - Kitchen Manager
"Ms. Karen" has lived in Chadron for many years. She manages the kitchen and prepares meals while supporting the USDA Food Program. Karen has grown children and is a grandmother.
The center also provides learning opportunities for work study students and students who are interested in the internship and volunteer program. Other staff are hired or encouraged to volunteer their time gaining experience with young children. Whenever possible, Foster grandparents, volunteers from R.S.V.P. and the Chadron community, Job Corp students, Alliance Practical Nursing students, practicum, and high school students join our TEAM!
